Bone Density Scan (DEXA)

Are you a candidate for preventative screening? Complete a brief survey to find out!

What Is Bone Density Scan (DEXA)?

A DEXA scan measures the density and mineral content in bone, most often in the hip or lower spine. It is one of the most accurate methods to determine bone density and potential problems related to bone loss.

This test is a valuable tool for diagnosing osteoporosis, which often has no symptoms unless you present with a fracture. A bone density scan can diagnose osteopenia and osteoporosis at their earliest stages, meaning you can begin receiving treatment to protect your bones sooner.

Who Is a Candidate?

  • Men and women who are 50 years of age or older, that have broken a bone, or had other illnesses or certain chronic medication use, that put their bone health at risk.

  • May be recommended by doctor based on:

  • Increased age

  • Family history

  • Previous fracture(s)

  • Medications

  • Overall health
