NY Governor Andrew Cuomo Approves Bill Requiring Insurance to Cover Mammogram Screenings at Age 35

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has approved a law that will require insurance companies to provide screening mammograms for men and women starting at age 35 when it is deemed medically necessary.

Cuomo approved the bill, called “Shannon’s Law,” on Aug. 2, and it will go into effect 30 days from its signing.

“By signing this legislation, we are taking another step to break down barriers to breast cancer screening and improve access to health care for all women in New York,” Cuomo said. “With 1 in 8 women developing breast cancer in their lifetime, the enactment of this bill is critical to enabling early detection and saving lives.”
