Prostate MRI

New research techniques have improved the ability of evidence-based medicine to screen and stage for prostate cancer—helping to reduce needless and often painful procedures that were common practice just a decade ago.

• 3T MRI, a less invasive and far more accurate tool for cancer detection than biopsy, is used with special imaging techniques to improve visualization of tumor nodes, as well as assessment of their precise location, risk, and aggressiveness.

• MRI-TRUS fusion combines the benefits of MRI-guided biopsy with the less time-consuming, more cost-effective benefits of a transrectal ultrasound-guided (TRUS) biopsy. Data and anatomic detail provided by prostate MRI is electronically delivered to special fusion ultrasound machines. Physicians use that data to guide live, real-time ultrasound scanning.
