OUR RADIOLOGISTS

Dr. Vanja Varenika grew up in San Francisco before moving to New York City for high school. He was thrilled to return to the Bay Area to attend Stanford University where he received a B.S. in Biology and received numerous awards including an Undergraduate Research Opportunity Grant and an Angel Grant. Following graduation, he moved back to San Francisco to attend medical school at UCSF. During his medical education, he completed a Medical Research Fellowship with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Dr. Varenika developed an interest for medical imaging during this research fellowship, prompting him to pursue a career in Diagnostic Radiology. He subsequently completed his residency at UCSF. During his final year of residency, he undertook a rigorous mini-fellowship in Neuroradiology and stayed on at UCSF for a dedicated fellowship in Musculoskeletal Imaging.

At each stage of his education and training, Dr. Varenika has helped expand the frontiers of medicine with his research endeavors. He has written ten peer reviewed publications and has given numerous presentations at societal meetings. In addition to his clinical expertise in Musculoskeletal Imaging, Dr. Varenika has also fostered an interest in MRI protocol development and quality control.

In his free time, Dr. Varenika takes advantage of the many incredible outdoor opportunities in the Bay Area, especially Mt. Tam and Point Reyes. He also enjoys spending time playing/watching basketball and hiking with his Newfoundland dog.
