What Is Low-Dose CT Lung Screening?

Low-dose CT is a quick and painless screening tool that uses low doses of radiation, comparable to a mammogram, to make detailed images of your lungs. These images are used to detect lung cancer at its earliest stages.

It is estimated that 80% of lung cancers are caused by smoking. And that 1 in 14 people will be diagnosed with lung cancer in their lifetime.* Screening with low-dose CT can help detect lung cancer at its earliest stage, which can result in better outcomes. In fact, people who undergo low-dose CT lung screenings have a 20% reduced risk of mortality compared with individuals who receive chest x-rays alone.

Who Is a Candidate?

  • Are 50 to 80 years old

  • Have a smoking history of at least 20 pack years (one pack per day for 20 years, 2 packs per day for 10 years, etc.)

  • Are either current smokers or have quit within the last 15 years

  • No signs or symptoms of lung cancer
