Shannon’s Law: NY Expands Insurance Coverage for Mammograms Starting at 35

Shannon's Law Saves Lives by Covering Mammograms for Women Age 35

Early detection saves lives—and thanks to Shannon’s Law, more women in New York have access to the screenings that can make all the difference. Passed in 2019, Shannon’s Law mandates that insurance companies cover annual screening mammograms for women starting at age 35, lowering the age from the previous benchmark of 40. This critical legislation helps detect breast cancer at earlier, more treatable stages, offering peace of mind and better outcomes for women across the state.

Named in memory of Shannon Saturno, a Long Island woman who was diagnosed with breast cancer at just 31 and passed away at 31, the law honors her legacy by ensuring others don't face the same barriers to early detection. At Lenox Hill Radiology | PURE Mammography, we support Shannon’s Law and encourage women to prioritize their health by scheduling their annual mammogram starting at age 35. Early detection could save your life.

Visit our PURE Mammography imaging centers, conveniently located inside a shopping mall near you. No appointment needed, walk-ins welcome! If you're 40 or older, no referral is needed for a screening mammogram.
