Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (MSK US) is a safe, painless, and radiation-free exam that provides real-time images of muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, and cartilage throughout the body. MSK US is a non-invasive exam that assists physicians in diagnosing and treating medical conditions in athletes and non-athletes including: tendonitis, bursitis, tears to ligaments, muscle, and tendons, sprains, carpal tunnel syndrome, soft tissues masses, ganglion cysts, rotator cuff tears, and Plantar Fasciitis.

Are You a Candidate for Musculoskeletal Ultrasound?

You may be a good candidate if you have any metal or electronic devices in your body. Individuals with metallic joint prostheses, artificial heart valves or cardiac stents, an implanted heart defibrillator, a pacemaker, metal clips, cochlear implants, a bullet, shrapnel or any other type of metal fragment can safely receive ultrasound imaging.

Claustrophobic patients are also a great candidate for MSK US since it is conducted in an open space. MSK US can be a great alternative to Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).

Sometimes movement is required to evaluate an injury. MSK US is the perfect exam to assist with evaluating your anatomy's movements in real time. This can include examining how tendons move around joints, and if a joint separates when stressed. With this type of exam, you are able to show exactly where you feel your symptoms, so we can pinpoint the area of concern at the time of imaging.
