Scheduling an annual mammogram starting at age 40 (or earlier, depending on your breast cancer risk factors and family history) is one of the most important things women can do to take control of their health. Community Radiology Associates proudly serves women throughout Frederick, Montgomery, Prince George’s, and Carroll counties with convenient, comfortable screening close to home.

Regular screenings make a difference!

A screening mammogram can detect breast cancer before symptoms appear, when treatment options are often more effective. Whether it's your first mammogram or your annual screening, we're here to make the experience as convenient and comfortable as possible.

8 Questions Every Woman Should Ask Before Choosing a Mammography Center

Not all mammography providers are the same. Before scheduling your annual mammogram, ask these eight important questions to help make sure you're getting the highest level of care.

At Community Radiology Associates, your mammogram is read by radiologists who specialize in breast imaging. It can be enhanced with optional Enhanced Breast Cancer Detection® (EBCD), combining AI with expert physician review for an added layer of confidence. If your exam is flagged for a closer look, a second breast imaging radiologist reviews it too.

Your mammogram can offer more than information about breast health alone. CRA's radiologists evaluate and report findings that may relate to heart health when visible on your images. Coming soon: CRA plans to introduce additional AI-supported tools to further support these evaluations.

Every qualifying screening mammogram at CRA includes a complimentary breast cancer risk assessment to help identify women who may benefit from additional screening or preventive care.

Community Radiology Associates helps keep your images, history, and care connected across screening mammograms, diagnostic mammography, breast ultrasound, breast MRI, and image-guided biopsy.

At CRA, dedicated breast imaging radiologists focus on breast health every day.

Many CRA locations offer evening and Saturday appointments, so staying current on your annual mammogram doesn't mean missing work or disrupting your week.

CRA continues investing in advanced breast imaging technology, including high-definition 3D mammography and AI-supported detection tools designed to support earlier detection and greater confidence.

Choosing a provider with experienced breast imaging specialists, advanced technology, convenient appointments, and comprehensive follow-up services can make all the difference — that's what you'll find at Community Radiology Associates.

Your annual mammogram is one of the most important appointments you'll make all year.

Choose confidence. Choose convenience. Choose Community Radiology Associates.

"I had a great experience at this mammogram facility. The space was very clean and well-organized, which immediately put me at ease. The staff was incredibly kind, patient, and professional—they took the time to explain everything and made the whole process as comfortable as possible. I truly appreciated how respectful and supportive everyone was. Highly recommend this facility for anyone needing a mammogram."

Frequently asked questions

A screening mammogram is a low-dose breast X-ray used to check for early signs of breast cancer, such as small masses or calcium deposits, before any symptoms appear.

Most women should begin annual screening at age 40. Women at higher risk — including those with a BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene mutation, a close family history of breast cancer, or prior chest radiation therapy between ages 10 and 30 — may need to start as early as age 30.

Most women should have their first screening mammogram at age 40. If you have a family history of breast cancer or other risk factors, talk with your doctor about starting earlier.

Most women should schedule a screening mammogram every year starting at age 40. Your healthcare provider may recommend a different schedule based on your personal risk factors.

Contact your healthcare provider right away. Most lumps are not cancerous, but only a provider can evaluate a change and recommend next steps, which may include additional imaging.

Avoid wearing deodorant, powder, lotion, or talc on your chest and underarms the day of your exam, since these products can interfere with image quality. If you've had a prior mammogram elsewhere, bring those images and reports or have them sent to our office ahead of time.

A technologist positions you at the mammography machine and briefly compresses each breast to capture clear images from multiple angles. The full visit takes about 30 minutes. If you opt in to Enhanced Breast Cancer Detection® (EBCD®), it's included automatically at no extra time or radiation.

You're free to resume normal activities right away. A board-certified radiologist who specializes in women's imaging reads your results and sends them to your ordering provider. If additional imaging is needed, our office will call to schedule a follow-up diagnostic exam.
